Labor Day weekend is a great Holiday to get out and spend more quality time with your family! Even though the school year is now in effect, that doesn’t have to signify the end of outdoor fun. As the evening gradually comes to an end, it doesn’t have to necessarily mean you and your family have to. How about stargazing at the Levee this Labor Day weekend. This is an activity that is sort of overlooked by many. Stargazing is a great way of meditating and clearing your mind. Most of all, there are some great things to be seen in our vast universe! This is one activity you will be glad you signed yourself up for! Who knows, you might even see a comet or shooting star to wish upon.  Best part yet, this activity is free!

The Red Stick Farmers Market

The Red Stick Farmers Market is great for a nice morning walk to go and get some fresh produce for your Labor Day cookout! The fresh and local vegetables and fruits are always a pleasant combo. It is always great to wake up on the weekend mornings to go and take a nice walk through the Farmers Market. There will be a plethora of offerings, from plants to homemade sweets! The Farmers Market will open there doors at 8:00 a.m. and close at 12:00 p.m. The location of the market is on 5th and Mainstreet, downtown Baton Rouge. This is a great opportunity to support our local farmers,and get some fresh produce! 

Zydeco Country

It’s time to celebrate the oldest Zydeco Festival this Labor Day weekend in Opelousas; the Zydeco Capital of the world! This weekend at the Zydeco Music Festival will be thrilling for the entire family. The creole culture and zydeco music will definitely keep you and your family entertained. They are going to be paying tribute to featured artist, Grammy Winner- Chubby Carrier, and others! The festival will be held at the Yambilee Festival Grounds off Highway 190, (1939 W. Landry,Opelousas), from September 1-2. The gates will open at 8:30 a.m. and close at 12 O’ clock, Midnight- or until the festivities stop. This is definitely going to be a great time for you to get out and spend some upbeat quality time with the family or friends! Did we mention there will be great food and arts and crafts there as well?! Admission to Zydeco Country is $15 for adult, and $5 for 12 years and under.
