All Star Volvo Car’s of Baton Rouge’s Winter Vehicle Tips

2

Tis the season of caring for our vehicles as the winter weather can be unpredictable and varied. Rain, ice and plain cold temperatures affect not only your driving experience, but your vehicle’s performance. Knowing the health report of your vehicle before heading out in undesirable driving conditions is very important this time of year. We have put together a few winter vehicle tips to help you keep or get your vehicle into shape this winter season.

Being the holiday season, we may find ourselves traveling to relatives who live in colder climates. Always carry an emergency kit with you or a survival kit for your vehicle. Choose a kit that is stocked with a blanket, first-aid kit, a knife, a flashlight, jumper cables, a small shovel, and an ice scraper.

One sever road hazard during the difficult winter months is poor vehicle lighting. Since the sun sets earlier in the day-which in turn gives us less daylight on our commute home; you need to make sure all of your vehicle’s lights are in excellent shape. If your headlights are yellow, consider replacing them as soon as possible to give you the best illumination during your commute.

We would like to help keep you and your family safe this holiday season by sharing these few winter vehicle tips. Putting your vehicle maintenance at the top of mind during the cooler temperatures will cause less headaches down the road. Schedule your service appointment with us today!

Have a Game Plan For Fall Service

With fall quickly approaching, it is important to have your vehicle ready for the chilly temperatures ahead. Although it does not snow or get too terribly cold here in South Louisiana, you still need to have your car service and ready for the fall weather that will soon be upon us! All Star Volvo of Baton Rouge has compiled a few tips and recommendations in order to get your vehicle in tip-top shape before the season changes!

Fluids

  • Check the oil

You car’s engine oil is always important, but it is especially so during the fall and winter. If your oil level is low, you should contact your local auto body shop and schedule an oil change. It is also recommended that you use a multi-grade viscosity oil for winter driving, just in case!

  • Cooling system

The cooling system should be flushed and refilled as recommended. The level, condition, and concentration of the coolant should be checked periodically. A 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water is usually recommended. Do-It-Yourselfers: Never remove the radiator cap until the engine has thoroughly cooled! The tightness and condition of drive belts, clamps, and hoses also should be checked regularly by one of our professional technicians!

  • Check the brakes and tires.

Inclement weather and associated road conditions and other hazards require good stopping power. That means good brakes and tires. If the tires have wear bars showing, say the experts, you need to replace the tires. Most good brake and tire shops will inspect the brakes and tires at no charge. Also check the tire pressure, as tire pressure drops when the outside temperatures plummet.

These are just a few things All Star Volvo of Baton Rouge suggests you check before the fall season rolls around! Taking care of your vehicle and routinely getting it serviced will ensure your vehicle will last a lot longer! Make sure to schedule your service appointment, and view all of our Service Specials!

National Car Care Month

2016-04-11 National Car Care Month

April is National Care Car Month! “Why April?” you may ask yourself. In April, as winter comes to an end, it is time to get your Volvo ready for spring driving and summer road trips! National Car Care Month reminds you to take care of any issues that may have occurred or been ignored during winter. Spring time is filled with sunshine, some afternoon showers and lots of pollen. Make sure your Volvo’s tires are rotated, balanced and in good condition for those wet roads. Deep potholes aren’t friendly to shocks and struts. An inspection to determine wear or leaks can alleviate bigger issues down the road. Also having your wheels properly aligned after a season of tough conditions can help keep you on the road in a safe direction. Also make sure your windshield wiper blades are being replaced every 6-12 months to avoid streaking on your windshield.

With all of that pollen in the air, your Volvo’s air filter can get clogged up pretty quickly. Make sure you are routinely checking and changing it to ensure optimal air flow is being produced. When it comes to your Volvo’s safety, the brake system is at the top of the list. Making sure your brakes are working properly before you head out on those slick roads or long summer road trips will ensure for a safe and comfortable ride! Brakes are a normal wear item for any car and eventually they’re going to need to be replaced. For routine maintenance, check your vehicle’s braking system at least once a year. A thorough inspection should include brake lining wear, brake fluid level, rotor thickness, condition of hoses and brake lines, brake and dash warning lights, as well as taking the car for a test drive to detect other potential brake system problems.
